Raising the Ridgepole
Cutting some straight ash to length for the ridgepole and upright supports
Peeling the bark off of the 21 foot ash ridgepole.
One of the three mortise-and-tenon joints for the ridge and supports.
You can also see one of our chisels and mallets used to make the joints.
Raising the finished ridgepole. Only one of the joints needed some adjustment. August 12, 2005.
Benjamin finishes a mortise for one of the angle braces.
Fitting the brace into place. It took quite a few tries and lots of trimming before both braces fit into place.
The finished ridgepole with supporting braces. The braces should keep the ridgepole from swaying. It feels quite solid now!
We finished the braces on the morning of August 13.
